Ana Moise
I chose to study BA (Hons) Criminology at Birmingham City University. Here’s why…
City life
Criminology interested me the most and I knew that this was the subject I wanted to develop in.
The hardest task was choosing the university that would be my home for the next chapter of my life. I visited about 10 different universities around the UK. At first, I wasn’t sure on what I was specifically looking for. Once I found BCU, I realised it was the vibe, and how the city and the university made me feel. I attended an Open Day and the city just looked perfect to me. It was everything I was looking for. I knew I would experience life in a different and exciting way because of how diverse and multicultural it is.
Module content
Criminology was the subject I wanted to study but I had to make sure that the course content interested me. I checked the course content online and found that every module excited me. I felt like it was the perfect course, because every module linked with each other and complemented each other. Of course, I have favourite modules due to my passions within Criminology, but I was excited to learn different aspects within the course for a rounded degree. I love the challenging material and it excites me to learn something new.
Teaching quality
During my research for the course, I read about how the courses are taught and found out that the teaching is recognised for its excellent industry connections and research impact. I discovered that one professor that teaches at the University is one of my favourite authors. He also appears in multiple documentaries on YouTube and Netflix, and is one of the UK’s leading criminologists. I learned so much from this professor from seeing him online, and I like the way he explains tricky terminology and vocabulary so it can be understood by both home and international students.
I knew that the course I chose, partnered with talented lecturers and BCU support, would give me the opportunity to kick start my career and reach my full potential.
