Sociology - My Three Reasons Why

3 Reasons Why Economics Rio 300x200 Why should you consider applying to study at the School of Social Sciences?

You've probably already heard about our practice based learning, our unique relationship with the city we're in, and our newly upgraded facilities, but what do our students think are the selling points for their courses?

So we asked Rio, a final year Sociology student, to give us three reasons why she chose to join the School of Social Sciences.

Amazing teaching

The teaching styles here at BCU are engaging and keep me interested, and all of my lecturers have been fantastic. I know I can speak to them if I have any concerns regarding my assignments, and know I’ll get the support I need. The modules have all been interesting and I have learnt so much over the past few years. The Centre for Academic Success also offers a wide range of support, from help with Harvard referencing to advice on essay structuring, and I have benefitted a lot by going there.

All the support

I am currently on a sandwich year and working at the Legal Ombudsman as an Investigator. The BLSS Careers+ team supported me with my CV and interview techniques, and this helped me to secure the placement. There are a wide range of placements available offering amazing opportunities for students to secure work experience as part of their degree. I am so happy I opted for the sandwich year as I am gaining invaluable experience which will help me in the future.

Endless Opportunities

Currently I have three part time roles within the university, working as a Student Ambassador, Graduate Plus assistant and an Ask associate. The university is extremely flexible and I am able to choose shifts that work around my lectures and seminars. There are many job and volunteering opportunities within BCU and I was able to find work here straight away.

All the staff within the university are approachable and friendly. The Ask team have dealt with numerous queries for me over the years and the customer service they all provide is outstanding. They are always happy and able to help.

Good luck with your application and hope to see you see next year!
