Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Our Partnership

Exploring the power of plants

Birmingham City University and Birmingham Botanical Gardens share a vision of combining education, innovation, and community engagement to make a tangible difference to Birmingham and beyond.

Located in Edgbaston, just a short distance from our City South Campus, Birmingham Botanical Gardens is the ‘green heart’ of Birmingham, offering a uniquely bio-diverse natural environment.

We are working together to engage with unique plant resources for interdisciplinary research and student projects, exploring the role of plants in addressing global challenges, from health and sustainability to urban greening and innovation. Through our partnership, our staff and students also have access to the gardens to support their physical and mental health through the restorative power of nature. By aligning missions, we will support enriching experiences for learning, discovery, and cultural growth.

Our Research

This partnership will extend our research exploring how nature can make cities greener and healthier, and improve our health and wellbeing. We are investigating ways to bring more plants and green spaces into urban areas. From studying natural ecosystems to designing eco-friendly spaces, our researchers are finding new ways to shape cities of the future. Our focus is on how nature can improve people’s physical and mental health. By working together, we aim to show how nature can make a real difference in our daily lives.
