Dr Emmanuel Aboagye-Nimo
Senior Lecturer in Construction Management
Emmanuel Aboagye-Nimo is a Chartered Construction Manager (MCIOB) and a Senior Lecturer in Construction Management.
He teaches on a range of Built Environment modules and supervises researchers of various levels from undergraduate to doctoral projects.
He has a background in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management. He has researched and consulted on health and safety practices for numerous small and micro construction firms as well as safety groups. He has advocated for the acknowledgement of safety ideologies adopted by small teams on construction projects due to their overlooked and yet invaluable wealth of health and safety experience which is often tacit.
Emmanuel is an advocate for equality in the workplace and was the former Chair for Race Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage at Nottingham Trent University. He has worked with a range of academic institutions and construction firms in implementing policies to enhance transparency and fair treatment of employees and also to improve employee wellbeing.

Research
Emmanuel is currently working with collaborators from University of Brighton’s Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOB), Nottingham Trent University, University of Manchester and other industry partners in delivering an air quality project under the umbrella of TAPAS (Tackling Air Pollution at Schools).
This groundbreaking project is seeking to improve air quality for primary school pupils with hope that the outcomes of the project can be scaled up to a wider population. The project implements digital innovation and crucial human intervention to ensure air quality is significantly improved for occupants of classrooms.
Emmanuel is also working with Fulkers Bailey Russell (a multi-purpose Built Environment firm) to understand how organisations can create and maintain a sustainable philosophy as a fundamental ideology of all aspects of their endeavours. Some of the ongoing works have won multiple awards at the SEEDS Conference.
His core research projects still feature health, safety and wellbeing of workers. This began with small and micro construction firms but the inquiry has now expanded to cover other blue collar jobs in the UK and developing economies including Ghana, South Africa and Nigeria.
He is also passionate about equality and diversity. He continues to research, publish, and consult in the above areas.
