BSc (Hons) Construction Management 2018

Aspiring to become a Chartered Project Manager after studying Construction Management at Birmingham City University, Adam Dean Zaman is currently in full-time employment while studying part-time.

During his studies, he received the Certificate of Excellence from the CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) which is only awarded to a selective amount of students nationally.

“I had always had an interest in construction as my great grandfather was a blacksmith, my grandfather was a joiner and my father was a builder. I came across the Construction Management degree and realised it was the right course for me. It had all the content required for me to become a professional construction manager after graduating and there was also the opportunity to take part in a scholarship, which is only offered to a selective amount of students who are studying a construction related course in a university in Birmingham.

“I chose to study at Birmingham City University simply because of what the university has to offer. The university has links with well-established companies in industry as well having great facilities for students. I am currently in full-time employment with Capita working within the property and infrastructure department whilst studying Construction Management part-time.

“During my studies, I received an award which was a Certificate of Excellence from the CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building). Because this award is only given to a selective amount of students across the country, this will enable me to stand out from other candidates. This award has also motivated me to work even harder to achieve my dream of becoming a Chartered Project Manager.

“What I have enjoyed about my course is meeting and working among new people from different courses within my faculty. This has helped me understand the roles and importance of each discipline and given me an insight as to how each profession plays their part through-out the different phases of a project in industry.

“I also like the fact it is a very relaxed and  friendly environment. I found the staff to be very helpful as they were willing to give up their own time to help students. They are really supportive and are always willing to give additional support; they will always keep us updated if there were any vacancies or opportunities for work experience or placements. I  found the revision sessions held around exam season to be very beneficial.

“Birmingham is a very vibrant and multicultural city so there’s always something to do. You have many options from enjoying student life to experiencing different cultures.
