Catherine Shirley

Catherine graduated from University of Keele in economics, and joined the Caudwell Group where she trained as a CIMA management accountant at different locations across Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Following qualification and membership with CIMA, Catherine joined Newcastle Under Lyme Further Education College as an accounting lecturer. She had been inspired by teachers she had met during her own student journey and decided that education and academia was a rewarding path to follow.

During her time with FE sector, she gained a postgraduate teaching qualification from Staffordshire University and developed the experience and confidence to teach across a wide range of accounting related subjects such as financial management, management accounting, auditing and business strategy.

Catherine played a key part in obtaining and maintaining her former employer's Gold standard of ACCA accreditation and became one of the first CIMA Global Advanced partners within UK.

In addition to teaching, she has worked as an exam marker, question writer and quality reviewer for the major chartered accounting bodies. She has become a paid contributor to CIMA's student magazine and was recently elected Treasurer of North West Midlands CIMA regional branch.
