Kirsten initially trained in Psychology, moving into education with children displaying complex and challenging needs.

After retraining in Integrative Psychotherapy Kirsten worked within various sectors such as the NHS, Adoption Support Services and the Education Sector. Kirsten has sat on various safeguarding working groups as a mental health lead and established a clinical service in the North of England.

As part of her consultancy role, Kirsten has supported local authorities with mental health policies and training and has established her own school based training programme.

Kirsten was nominated to the Royal Society in 2019 in recognition of her work with communities impacted by suicide.

More recently Kirsten has worked within Ukraine, Romania and Moldova supporting agencies in their efforts to provide trauma informed care to children, young people and families, creating training packages and establishing pathways of support.

Kirsten’s area of research interest is in MHPSS programmes and post conflict and disaster trauma recovery in child and adolescent populations.
