Dr Ben Colliver has recently engaged in an ethnographic study of Birmingham’s Gay Village, with a specific focus on notions of inclusion and exclusion. He identified exclusionary practices in play that serve to uphold homonormative ideals.

He has also engaged in research exploring notions of safety and risk for men that have sex with men when engaging in online hook-up culture. He utilised a mixed-methods approach and is currently upscaling this project to explore violence and online dating more broadly.

Ben has previously worked in the charity sector providing support to a number of young LGBTQ people around a range of issues including substance misuse, crime and victimisation, and sexual health.

Ben has also delivered extensive training to healthcare professionals, education staff and police around diversity awareness.

He works closely with a number of professional, semi-professional and amateur sports club around inclusivity within sports.
