Having joined Birmingham City University as a Visiting Lecturer during the 2019/20 academic year, Leon had to quickly adapt to teaching online during COVID. His previous experience as an educator in custodial settings put him in good stead to cope with the swift change in teaching environments. He has previously taught at Newman University Birmingham where he was module leader for Youth Crime and Penology.
Leon currently teaches across all levels at the university as module leader for Ethics, Diversity & Inclusion on the MSc Policing and Intelligence Analysis course, Security Conflict & Justice and War & Conflict in the Modern World on the Criminology and Security Studies course. Leon supports teaching on the Research Methods module and delivers guest lectures on various modules across criminology, policing and security courses at the university.
Leon obtained his Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2022 and strives to continually improve his teaching and learning skills through professional development. Leon has also become a SEDA recognised post graduate supervisor and is currently supervising students on the MSc Policing and Intelligence Analysis program as well as several students at undergraduate level.
Leon is currently undertaking his PhD where he is investigating state responses to extreme right-wing terrorism and political violence.
