Mohammed is a Senior Lecturer in Data and Information Science at Birmingham City University. He has been working on developing artificial intelligence tools for healthcare and life science applications since 2005.

Mohammed has been working within several groups of biologists, pathologists, and computer scientists in different research projects in Egypt, Singapore, Italy, and the UK. Before joining Birmingham City University, he worked for the School of Computer Science at Nottingham University, Mechanochemical Cell Biology at Warwick University, Nottingham Molecular Pathology Node (NMPN), and Division of Cancer and Stem Cells both at Nottingham Medical School, as a Research Fellow. In 2016, he got the prestigious Marie Cuire Research Fellowship in the school of Computer Science at Nottingham University. He also worked as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science for Assiut University in 2015. Mohammed has received his Ph.D. degree (with Doctor Europaeus) in Computer Science and Engineering from IMT - Institute for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy.

His main research interests are in computer vision including machine learning, deep learning, medical image processing and analysis. Mohammed served in the program committees of major conferences related to machine learning including EIDWT 2016, HPCC 2014, and CIBEC 2014. He has been reviewing articles in several international journals including IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, Neurocomputing, and IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. He is also a reviewer for the EPSRC research fellowships and grants.
