Dr. Sayan Sarcar is a lecturer in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and a Digital Media Technology Lab member. His research interests include HCI, User Experience and Usability, Ageing and Accessibility, and Computational Interaction.

Before joining BCU, Dr. Sarcar worked as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Library, Information and Media Science at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. He also worked as a Research Associate in the School of Information at Kochi University of Technology, Japan, where he was a member of the Center for Human-Engaged Computing. Dr. Sarcar obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India.

Dr. Sarcar is currently working on two research projects around HCI, usability, user experience, and accessibility research areas: exploring and understanding touch interaction using a slidable sheet on smart devices (joint project with Tohoku University, Japan) and examining collaborative multimodal coding techniques for developers with physical impairments (supported through Google Inclusion Research grant). He has also worked as a team leader for a Japan-Finland joint project on user interface design for the ageing populations.

Dr. Sarcar has published several co-authored papers in top-tier HCI conferences and journal venues like CHI, ASSETS, DIS and International Journal of Human-Computer Studies. In addition, he serves as a program committee member for many leading conferences (e.g. ACM CHI, ACM ASSETS, ACM DIS, ACM CHI Play, ACM IMX, Interact, IEEE AIVR) in the field .View the updated list of his publications .
