Dr. Sayed Chhattan Shah is a Senior Lecturer in Computing at Birmingham City University in the United Kingdom. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from Korea University in 2012 and an MS degree in the same field from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences in 2008.
Before joining Birmingham City University in 2024, Dr. Shah held significant academic positions at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea. He served as an Assistant Professor from 2014 to 2019 and as an Associate Professor from 2019 to 2024. His academic experience also includes regular and visiting faculty roles at prestigious institutions such as Korea University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, and Hamdard University.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Shah has extensive professional experience. He has worked as a Senior Researcher at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute in South Korea and as a Software Engineer at the National Engineering and Scientific Commission in Pakistan. His research interests lie in mobile distributed systems and digital twins for healthcare.
Throughout his career, Dr. Shah has led and completed several research projects funded by organizations such as the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Ministry of Transport of Korea, the HUFS Research Foundation, and ITEA Europe. He has secured research funding twice as a principal investigator from the National Research Foundation of Korea. Additionally, he has supervised and co-supervised several graduate and undergraduate students at Korea University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, while actively collaborating with researchers from several countries.
As a seasoned academic, Dr. Shah is recognized as a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Member of ACM, the EPSRC Peer Review College, and other professional societies. He has authored over 50 papers in internationally recognized journals and conference proceedings and has played key roles as a Chair and Program Committee Member for various international conferences. He has delivered talks at prominent conferences such as the Military Communications Conference in the USA and the IEEE Future Networks World Forum in Canada. Currently, he serves as a Lead Guest Editor for a Special Issue on Intelligent Architectures and Platforms for Private Edge Cloud Systems in Future Generation Computer Systems and as an Associate Editor for Intelligent Automation and Soft Computing. Dr. Shah also reviews funding proposals for organizations such as the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Qatar Research Foundation.
His research seeks to advance the development of next-generation AI-powered mobile distributed systems that integrate both traditional and cutting-edge devices and support emerging digital twin and Beyond 5G network applications. Additionally, he aims to transform health and healthcare through innovative application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
