Nicoleta Bocaneala is an assistant lecturer in the digital built environment at Birmingham City University. She teaches undergraduate courses across the school, especially Architectural Technology and Building Surveying. During her undergraduate degree in BSc Architectural Technology gained at Birmingham City University, she has been selected to act as a demonstrator for level 4 students to aid with the technical//practical projects as part of some core modules.
She has then worked for the university as a Visiting Lecturer and gained some experience as an Architectural Technologist in the industry as well.
Nicoleta joined Birmingham City University full time, as an assistant lecturer, in October 2021.
Her research interests are in cutting edge technologies and the use of digital tools in the AEC, with a focus on building performance and sustainability. In May 2022, she has started her part time PhD focusing on “The use of semantic digital twin for retrofit projects to improve building performance”.
Whilst working on her research project during her undergraduate, she has published a research paper in the Journal of Building, Survey, Appraisal & Valuation, “Daylight optimisation using parametric dynamic façades to improve energy efficiency”.
Nicoleta is also the Chair for the CIAT West Midlands aspirATion Group, a community within CIAT providing the opportunity for young professionals to develop and grow on a personal and professional level, whilst inspiring the next generation of Architectural Technology professionals.
