Dr Vireen Limbachiya

Vireen is currently the Deputy of College - Built Environment and an Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at Birmingham City University. He has strong academic leadership experience and a real passion for learning and teaching. Previous to this, he was the Head of Civil and Building Services Engineering and an Associate Professor in Civil Engineering in the School of Built Environment and Architecture at London South Bank University.

He is passionate about improving the sustainability of the materials used in the construction industry and the application of AI in Civil Engineering. His research interests started at Coventry University where he completed his PhD focused around improving the sustainability of the concrete that we use in construction. This was done by using cementitious by-products and demolition waste to replace cement and aggregates, respectively. In the past couple of years, his interest has focused on how artificial intelligence can be used in understanding and predicting specific mechanical properties of the materials that we use.
