Dr. Waqas Akbar Lughmani has over 15 years of experience in research, product design, teaching, and industry. He began his career as an operations engineer at a nuclear power plant after earning his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and completing postgraduate training in nuclear power technology. After four years, he moved to South Korea to pursue a master's degree in Mechanical and Automobile Engineering. During his master's studies, he developed a finite element model based on concentrated ion boundary theory for IPMC materials.
Upon completing his master's, Dr. Lughmani joined academia in Pakistan as a lecturer before relocating to the UK to pursue a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University. In his PhD research, he pioneered a novel approach to assess bone quality using drilling force data during orthopaedic surgery.
After earning his PhD, he joined Nemaura Pharma in the UK, where he patented a microneedle device for transdermal drug delivery. Before joining Birmingham City University (BCU), he spent seven years as an Associate Professor in Pakistan.
