A career in healthcare offers high employability and great job satisfaction. At BCU, we offer undergraduate degrees in Diagnostic Radiography, Operating Department Practice, Paramedic Science, Radiotherapy, Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment) and Speech and Language Therapy. Each profession requires a different set of skills and interests. What they all share is a focus on helping people and making a difference.
Our undergraduate healthcare courses
Operating Department Practice
Our Operating Department Practice course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to work as an Operating Department Practitioner. This course is also approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
There is currently a shortage of operating department practitioners across the UK, meaning you’ll have an excellent chance of employment upon graduation. Many of our graduates have gone on to work as Surgical Care Practitioners, Emergency Department Practitioners and much more.
Therapeutic Radiography (Radiotherapy)
We are the only training centre for radiography in the West Midlands region. Our radiotherapy course will prepare you to be a fully qualified Therapeutic Radiographer.
Our established links with the NHS mean you’ll benefit from extensive clinical work placements, ensuring you are well prepared for work in a clinical setting when you graduate.
Speech and Language Therapy
This innovative course offers a blended mix of client centred and evidence-based learning. Delivered in the West Midlands’ only training site for Speech and Language Therapists, this course will give you the skills and confidence to succeed in clinical practice.
Upon successful completion you will be able to work in Speech and Language Therapy, improving the quality of people’s lives. Career opportunities are varied and include working for the NHS or independently or specialising in either adult or paediatric care
Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment)
Become a specialist in enabling people who are blind or partially sighted to be as independent as possible in their day to day lives by studying this foundation degree in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment).
Graduates can pursue a wide range of careers such as Rehabilitation Officer for the Visually Impaired (ROVI), Senior Rehabilitation Worker and join the Rehabilitation Workers’ Professional Network (RWPN).
Biomedical Engineering
Our Biomedical Engineering course allows you to explore how engineering, maths, science and computing can be used to advance technology in healthcare.
After graduating you will be able to work as a Biomedical Engineer, using your problem-solving skills to create solutions to enable people with conditions or injuries to live the best life they can. Other areas you can work in include cardiopulmonary engineering, e-health and m-health or medical imaging and robotics to name a few.
Biomedical Sciences
Our practice-led degree offers a unique insight into human life processes, as well as disease and health within the population. You’ll develop a range of practical and analytical skills, with the opportunity to put them into practice during an optional sandwich year work placement.
Successful completion of this course can allow you to work as a Biomedical Scientist, Toxicologist, Microbiologist or science writer to name a few.
Paramedic Science
The BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree will develop your theoretical knowledge and practical skills within both the university and clinical practice environment.
You will also benefit from cutting-edge facilities and equipment that will enhance your skills. You’ll also get the opportunity to undertake clinical placements as part of the course, Giving you the tools and confidence to succeed as a Paramedic when you graduate.
Diagnostic Radiography
Do you want a career in diagnostic radiography? We are the largest training providers in the Midlands for Radiographers, our degree is also approved by The College of Radiographers.
At least 50 per cent of your time will be spent in clinical placement so that you can develop the practice skills necessary for employment as a Radiographer.
