Make an Amazing Maze!
Can you make a maze for Mr Marble? Join us for this hands on activity where the instructions below show you how to make a fun maze game using items you can find at home. All you need to do is follow along with us and make an amazing maze! Please ask a grownup to do this with you. It’s a lot of fun for you and them.
You will need:
- A shoe box, a shallow cardboard box or a sturdy box lid
- 2 marbles
- Some playdough/plasticine or tin foil and sticky tape
- Felt tip pens and/or stickers to decorate
Instructions:
- Place box or lid on a firm surface.
- Roll play dough or foil into snakes and balls.
- Place snakes and balls in box in a random pattern and press down so they stick (or use tape if using foil).
- Make arches out of playdough and add to the maze you have created (optional).
- Make a starting and ending port for the marble at either end inside the box/lid.
- Decorate the outside and inside of the box with felt pens and stickers (optional).
- Place marble in starting port and tip box gently to guide marble through the maze to the ending port.
- Try again with a different sized marble. If the maze is too easy, try again using more snakes, balls and arches.
- All done? Why not do a timed Marble race to see how fast you can move Mr Marble from one end to the other? Invite your family and friends to make their mazes and have a marble maze race with them.
- Here at aMAZing Stories, we want to see your amazing mazes. Take a picture of your maze, ask your grownup to email your photo to amazingstories@bcu.ac.uk with your first name/initials, age and the city/town/village you live before 28th November. We will display your maze here.
