Community partners
We work closely with a number of organisations within the local community. These partnerships are important in enhancing our student's experience not only in terms of visiting speakers, placement opportunities and visits to projects and services but for students to become involved in their local community.
Placements are an integral part of all of our education and teaching courses - our students will enhance their employability skills by putting their academic learning into practice.
Our community partners also play an important role in giving students a real-world understanding by participating in teaching events and helping to deliver some of the modules on our courses.
Ashram Housing Association provide excellent opportunities for students on our BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies course to volunteer to support in summer play schemes and holiday kitchen projects. Staff from Ashram contribute to our Enhancement Projects and support modules that relate to family support and safeguarding.
Benefitting the community - Handsworth Young People's Parliament
We've been supporting this initiative for children from 28 local schools for over 5 years. It encourages young people to become active citizens within their local communities by enabling their opinions on important issues to be heard.
Year 9 pupil Zahid said: “I like being part of the Young People’s Parliament because my opinion is valued and I work with other young people to improve society.”
Other local community partners include Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery including Blakesley Hall, Sarehole Mill and Moseley Bog. All of these partners support student placement experiences and provide research opportunities for students and academic staff alike.
