Jon is a Chartered Engineer, Technical Manager and Lecturer at Birmingham City University. He leads a team of engineers and technicians in delivering high-quality teaching and research outcomes. He has over 30 years of experience in engineering design, build, and commissioning of industrial and special purpose automation machinery and consumer equipment, as well as in running a successful online and physical business with sales of over £10M.

He has a passion for sharing his experience, expertise, and knowledge with others. He creates and delivers new content for courses, both online and face to face, on topics such as AI, sensors, controls, electronics, software, and mechanical systems integration. He also produces technical documents such as chartered engineer reports for insurance claims, expert witness for legal purposes, and health and safety investigations. He enjoys learning about new design and manufacturing technology, and finding new applications for traditional and emerging technologies.

Jon is an active member and volunteer for The IET (the UK’s largest engineering institution) and shares his knowledge and experience of engineering subjects by participating in international events especially in the field of AI, machines, controls and automaton which contribute towards solving some of the biggest environmental and social challenges.

As a Professional Registration Assessor, Jon is especially keen to help new engineers successfully develop their own career within engineering and is always happy to offer support and guidance in applying for EngTech, Ieng or CEng status.
