Engineering is one of the most exciting and innovative industries to be part of. Choosing where to study is a big decision and you’ll want to make sure you choose the right fit for you. We’re going to share with you the reasons why you should study engineering with Birmingham City University.
1. Home to major engineering firms
The West Midlands is the home to major manufacturing businesses including MG and Jaguar Land Rover. We’re proud of our links with industry which has helped our students find placement opportunities at companies such as Jaguar Land Rover.
2. Formula Student
Every year our engineering students take part in the Formula Student event that is run by the IMechE at Silverstone. This project requires students to design, plan and build an impressive single seater race car to compete against other universities!
3. HS2
HS2 is located opposite our City Centre Campus and will positively impact the way the city is developing by connecting other major cities - boosting the city’s workforce. Plus, it will minimise a commuter’s journey time going to and from Birmingham – it’s an estimated 49 minutes to travel from Birmingham to London.
4. Placement opportunities
To help you stand out in today’s competitive jobs market, our courses offer a placement option. Some of our students have completed placements at companies including: Network Rail, BMW, Nissan, WLF Innovations Ltd and Renault.
5. Investing in your future
We've invested £6.5 million on improvements to our Millennium Point facilities, including state-of-the-art specialist engineering labs and a project space with a makers’ area, to ensure you have the best possible environment for practice-based learning.
6. WISE members
We are members of WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) who host an annual Women in Engineering Day, demonstrating our values for diversity and commitment to encouraging more women to choose engineering careers. Check out our WISE scholarship to see if you’re eligible!
7. Engineering Leaders Scholarship (ELS)
All second year Engineering students can apply for this scholarship from the Royal Academy of Engineers to receive an accelerated personal development programme of support including £5,000 to use on career development activities, access to alumni for advice and support and attend annual networking event.
