Rhiannon Lockley

Rhiannon’s primary focus as a lecturer is equality and widening participation. I believe access to education for all is essential for democracy and a healthy society.

She grew up in the Black Country and studied in the West Midlands, graduating from Aston University in Psychology and Sociology in 2001 followed by an MA in Social and Cultural Theory at Staffordshire in 2002. While studying she worked as a learning mentor in Birmingham as part of an initiative to engage learners from socially excluded communities. She then worked in the NHS before completing her PGCE at the University of Wolverhampton in 2005.  

Rhiannon then worked in Further Education 2005-2018, lecturing in Social Sciences with a particular focus on supporting adults in their return to education and progression to health, education and social work oriented careers.

In 2018 she joined the University’s HELS Foundation Year team. As well as teaching across all of the core modules for this, I lead on Equality Diversity and Inclusivity (HEL3002) and Policy and Politics (HEL3005). She has extensive experience as an Equalities practitioner based on representation work and training for her union UCU which represents workers in further and higher education.
