Mark qualified from the Department of Radiographic studies in Stoke-on-Trent in 1994, having spent most of his training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. He worked for four years as a clinical radiographer at Essex County Hospital in Colchester, before being seconded part-time in June 1999 to the role of Hospital Based Lecturer for City University in London. This role became permanent in October 1999, and subsequently in 2004 Mark became clinical placement coordinator for radiotherapy at the University.

Mark joined Birmingham City University in January 2009 and teaches on several undergraduate and postgraduate modules, as well as being module leader for the level 4 Radiation Science and Technology 1 module. His other role is that of Radiation Protection Supervisor for the Faculty.

Mark is clinical tutor to students in the Radiotherapy departments of the Cheltenham General Hospital, part of the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and New Cross Hospital, part of the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals Trust.
