Louise Scott

Before Louise moved into education, her previous job roles have been fitness instructor, Royal Navy and HGV driver. Being a keen motorcyclist, she has also attended college to learn motorcycle engineering. This varied background has exposed her to a lot of life experiences which gives her a well rounded and balanced approach to most things she encounters in life. 

Louise's interest in health care started with the first aid training she acquired in the Navy, this interest was instrumental in her embarking on the ODP course in 2010. She has worked as an ODP for the last 12 years and recently moved to education. Louise's 12 years as an ODP has given her a wealth of knowledge and experience which she has liked to share with many students she has mentored on clinical placements. Louise likes working with people and enjoyed mentoring students on placement which was the catalyst for pursuing a career in education.

Louise is currently the module lead for 4019, which is a first year Module designed to teach students awareness and understanding of ‘Caring in the perioperative environment’. This consists of an assessment which is split into two parts one is a presentation which discusses the factors that influence the safe delivery of patient care and the second part is a written 3000, word case study. She is also Module lead for second year 5037, Module designed to develop and prepare students for ‘Transitioning to a registered practitioner’. The assessment is a 3000-word written submission discussing the roles and responsibilities of a registered professional also this assignment should contain a reflection of the students own professional development. Both these Modules consist of a blended learning strategy using face to face and on-line lectures.
