Cara Large
Cara has had a dynamic and interesting career working in construction as a Quantity Surveyor with a Higher National Certificate in Building Studies, a role that took her all over the UK, working in challenging environments. In 2014, she began studying adult nursing, graduating with a 1st Class Hons Degree Bachelor of Nursing and qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 2017. Following this, Cara began her professional nursing career in Critical Care, and continued to work in Intensive Therapy throughout the pandemic. Subsequently, she left this role to become a fulltime agency nurse, working in Nottingham, Derby, Burton on Trent, Birmingham, Warwick, Hereford, Shrewsbury and Dudley.
In 2018, Cara commenced a Master of Arts in Biomedical and Healthcare Ethics at the University of Leeds, and completed this in 2022. This Masters has provided her with a keen interest in all aspects of applied ethics, particularly those relating to healthcare and clinical practice. Her research focused on the care of individuals who had attempted suicide, based on her experience of caring for the significant number of individuals admitted into critical care units. Ultimately, the research highlights deficits in knowledge of individuals rights, and potential biases of the healthcare professionals. This emphasises the importance of exposure to all fields of nursing as they are not mutually exclusive and ultimately this will improve practice and care across the board.
Cara joined Birmingham City University in 2022 and is excited to develop her academic career, teaching repertoire and support students on their learning journey into nursing.
