Emily Dekker

Emily qualified as an adult nurse in 2008, from King’s College London. Upon qualifying she worked in acute and rehabilitation stroke services at King’s College hospital for four years, during which time, stroke services rapidly developed and began offering thrombolysis treatments for stroke patients.

Emily was fortunate enough to work with the research team and contribute to the thrombolysis timeframe and care pathway research. Following this she moved into emergency nursing.

Emily has ten years’ experience in emergency nursing in the Royal Free Hospital, London, Whanganui hospital, a rural regional hospital in New Zealand, and an urgent care centre in Whanganui, New Zealand. During her employment at the Royal Free hospital emergency department, Emily also had a short-term part-time role, as an alcohol liaison nurse and homelessness link nurse for the emergency department.

Whilst working in New Zealand, Emily had the opportunity to join the Whanganui flight team, gaining four years of experience in aeromedical nursing, moving patients between primary and tertiary hospitals for specialist care, via fixed wing aircraft and ambulance.
