Visiting Professor of Vascular Surgery / Co-Course Lead in Advancing Diabetes Care

Professor Alok Tiwari has been a consultant vascular surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham since 2011 and is Visiting Professor of Vascular Surgery at Birmingham City University.

He qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical school in 1996, completed basic surgical training in Essex and then embarked on a Master of Surgery (MS) at the Royal Free Hospital. He was awarded his MS for his research on tissue engineering for vascular disease.

He then trained extensively in UK, Australia and Singapore in both open and endovascular surgery. His clinical interest is in endovascular surgery of the lower limb and management of the diabetic foot.

He is the training programme director for Vascular Surgery in the West Midlands and member of the specialist advisory committee on Vascular Surgery. From 2015-2020, he was Lead for GMC accreditation of Educational Supervisor, University Hospitals Birmingham. He has been an honorary senior clinical lecturer at University of Birmingham since 2013. 

Professor Tiwari is keen on teaching of all groups of medical staff. He has published more than 100 articles and book chapters on most aspects of vascular surgery.
