Anne-Marie has completed a dual qualification as a Register Children’s Nurse and Registered Adult Nurse. She had a varied career in adult and child nursing in acute, intensive care and high dependency settings in London and Southampton and enjoyed six months working as an Expedition Nurse for Operation Raleigh in Kenya.
Experience as a Night Sister for a 60 bedded Paediatric Unit prompted her to complete additional education in intensive care nursing. In the 1990’s she has worked in Intensive Care at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, initially as Sister but then as Clinical Teacher for the Paediatric Intensive Care (PIC) Course. This led to a post in the University as Education Lead for the Pathway in PIC. Anne-Marie also completed her BSc (Hons) and Master’s in Nurse Education. In more recent years she used her specialist knowledge and skills as a member of the Department for Children and Young People's Health supporting and teaching students on Nursing courses including the MSci/BSc (Hons) Nursing Degree, Nursing Associate Programme and Post qualifying modules.
She enjoys encouraging and supporting students in developing their knowledge, skills and professional attributes in the nursing care of children and their families. This also involves supporting and guiding students in effective ways to learn and demonstrate their knowledge and skills in both University and clinical practice settings. Effective communication skills and team working are essential attributes for her roles as a personal tutor, academic assessor. member of the Department of Children and Young Peoples Nursing team, the School of Nursing & Midwifery and wider Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences.
