Joanna Day

Jo initially completed a Psychology degree before going on to study Diploma of Higher Education in Children’s Nursing at Kings College London, graduating in 2011. Her first staff nurse post was at The Royal Brompton Hospital in London, working in cardiothoracic nursing and gaining extensive knowledge of congenital cardiac conditions and respiratory conditions including Cystic Fibrosis.

Jo studied a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing at University of the West of England, graduating in 2013 with Distinction and went on to practise as a health visitor in North Somerset. As a part of her role she worked with the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community.

In 2016 the opportunity arose to emigrate to New Zealand and Jo spent 18 months practising as a Plunket nurse, the direct equivalent of a health visitor. During this time, she came to understand a different model of health and method of working and took time to get to know Maori culture and the health inequalities faced.

Upon return to the UK in 2018 she returned to health visiting in South Warwickshire with a special interest in supporting the refugee population.

Jo has always had a passion for learning. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills with students, helping them in their journey to become our future nurses and supporting them to deliver gold standard care.

Jo joined Birmingham City University in August 2022 as a lecturer and teaches on module NUR6078 for third year students.
