Miss Deborah Buckle

Deborah started her career in education whilst studying for her degree in Sociology in London whereby she took up a part time position as a sub warden at London Metropolitan University student halls of residence. Once completing her course, Deborah returned to the Midlands whereby she took up a position at BCU, which was at the time called UCE, in the student services department supporting students. Deborah then moved to London and worked at Queen Mary University of London as a bursaries and scholarships assistant expanding her knowledge of student funding.

However, Deborah felt compelled to work in a more caring and compassionate capacity and therefore returned to the Midlands to recommence her career and work for Mencap with people with a learning disability/autism. This career change was what led Deborah to complete her nursing degree at BCU in the field of Learning Disabilities. Her clinical roles that followed included community nursing and also specialising in more mental health settings, including St Andrew’s Healthcare, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and as a Mental Health Specialist at a college/university. Deborah moved to the Manchester area in 2019 whereby she worked back in an educational capacity at Manchester Metropolitan University as a Work-Based Learning Tutor for nursing and healthcare professionals’ students preparing them for practice and sourcing new learning environments.

This ignited Deborah’s newfound passion for teaching whereby she then took up a position at the University of Salford as a Clinical Educator for the trainee nursing associate programme. Due to wishing to return to the Midlands, Deborah now has recently come full circle and is now an assistant lecturer for the pre-registration programme on the nursing associate team. Deborah is also the LGBTQ+ champion for the trainee nursing associate programme.
