Since qualifying in January 2018 as a registered nurse Paul has been working in coronary care and cardiac catheter labs. This is where he developed highly specialised skills and knowledge in the management of critically unwell cardiac patients.
During his time as a registered nurse, Paul spent two years on a specialist emergency response team where he responded to acute emergencies and cardiac arrests. He also spent a significant amount of time being the on-call senior nurse for ACS emergencies.
Paul then went on to work for University Hospitals Birmingham where he became the clinical educator for cardiology and coronary care and helped support and develop nurses working within that specialty.
Paul has also taught nationally recognized courses such as acute illness management and cardiac care as well as being a core trainer for clinical life support and NG tube insertion. Paul then became the lead for clinical education at UHB covering several specialties and supporting and developing education throughout the trust.
During his time at UHB Paul was a visiting specialist lecturer at Birmingham City University teaching the fundamentals of general practice post-graduation course and teaching clinical skills to pre-registration nursing students. This career journey has led to Paul becoming a full time lecturer at Birmingham City University teaching medicine management and applied physiology to pre-registration nursing students.
