Paul Smith
Paul is a mental health nurse with 25 years of clinical experience, largely within the specialty of child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS).
After training in Birmingham and qualifying as an RMN, Paul initially worked for 4 years on an adult acute ward. He then moved into the child and adolescent mental health service and worked in a variety of senior roles for 21 years. During this time, Paul continued his education and studied Systemic Family Therapy before completing a Post Graduate Certificate (PGCE) in Leadership and Service Improvement.
Paul has always had a passion for learning and development and during the last years of his NHS work Paul was employed as a Clinical Nurse Educator. In this role he supported nursing staff with backgrounds in Mental Health, Children’s Nursing and Learning Disabilities within their workplace. Paul obtained a further PGCE in Education for Health Professionals whilst in this role.
Paul joined BCU as a mental health lecturer in 2022 and currently works on a first-year nursing module and as Course Lead for the Post-Registration CAMHS programme.
