The Chief Executive of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is to be honoured at a Birmingham City University graduation ceremony next week in recognition of her outstanding achievements within the NHS.
Dame Julie Moore is a graduate nurse who worked in clinical practice before moving into management. After a variety of clinical, management and director posts, she was appointed as Chief Executive of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) in 2006.
Julie plays a role at a national level with the Department of Health and in 2011, as part of the listening exercise following the publication of the new Health and Social Care Act, she was asked to become a member of the NHS Future Forum leading the review of the proposed Education and Training Reforms.
Julie is an Independent Member of the Board of the Office for Strategic Co-ordination of Health Research (OSCHR) and a member of the following bodies: the International Advisory Board of the University of Birmingham Business School, the Court of the University of Birmingham, the Faculty Advisory Board of the University of Warwick Medical School. She is a founder member and past Chair of the Shelford Group, 10 leading academic hospitals in England.
She was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire as part of the New Year’s Honours in 2012, and in 2013 she was included in the BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour list of the 100 most powerful women in the UK.
She said: "I am greatly honoured and privileged to receive this Honorary Degree from a University that plays such a vital role in health care in Birmingham and the West Midlands."
Dame Julie Moore will receive the award on Monday 10 March at the Awards Congregation ceremony which will celebrate the achievements of students graduating from the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences.
