China
Chinese students coming to Birmingham will have a warm welcome; there are many other Chinese students on campus and the Chinese Quarter in our city centre offers many restaurant and cafes, including delicious hot pots. The seven-storey granite pagoda, referred to as ‘Pagoda Island’, is a well-known landmark and is surrounded by gardens and sculpture.
We have much to enjoy in terms of culture and entertainment in our city, including an annual Dragonboat Festival and the celebrations of Chinese New Year – celebrations take place for thousands of visitors including lion dancing and fireworks.
Birmingham is also great for shopping, with lots of brand name outlets to visit – the main shopping area is only a short walk away from our City Centre Campus.
Our International Office in Shanghai was established in 2006 and we work hard to develop strong working relationships between the UK and China.
We provide students with a professional and efficient application and student service from Shanghai, and maintain close relationships with former students living in China so there’s a large alumni network to become part of.
We are building educational partnerships with key universities in China, and currently have partnerships with Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Science and Technology and Guilin University of Technology.
Famous Chinese recipients of Honorary Degrees from us include pianist Lang Lang and businessman W Wing Yip – founder of the Wing Yip group of superstores, the UK’s leading supplier of Chinese and oriental ingredients.
Getting your visa
The following film follows the real experience of Chinese student applicants, giving an unprecedented insight into the Visa application process and for the first time cameras go behind the scenes at the UK Visa Application Centre in Beijing – capturing a unique glimpse of how young people in China who wish to study in the UK go through the visa process and go on to become a student in the UK.

“As an international student with little knowledge of the English language, moving to the UK from China was a daunting step, but the support and encouragement I received from the University helped me to achieve my ambitions. The School provided cultural and historical education and I enjoyed every second.”
