Facilities
We've invested over £400 million across our campuses and facilities. Whether it's our state-of-the-art Parkside Building which includes four film and TV studios or the simulated operating theatre and hospital wards at our City South Campus, we're ensuring you have the best possible space in which to learn.
Birmingham City University has a whole host of buildings and campus sites to accommodate our wide variety of courses and learning provision. Our City Centre is home to the Curzon Building, Parkside Building, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Millennium Point. We also have our City South Campus as well as our School or Art and School of Jewellery which are both based in the heart of Birmingham.
City Centre Campus
The Curzon Building is a state-of-the-art addition to our City Centre Campus. It features modern facilities including our psychology labs, mock courtroom and City trading room. We invested £63 million in the Curzon Building to ensure our facilities for our Business, Law and Social Science courses have the most up-to-date resources and learning environments.
The Parkside Building provides a home for the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media and is equipped with industry-standard facilities, including TV studios, post-production suites, radio studios and green screen studio with BOLT JR+ high-speed camera robot. It also has a multitude of creative exhibition spaces.
Millennium Point is home to our Computing, Engineering and Built Environment students, and has recently undergone a £6.5 million refurbishment and facilities upgrade. That’s just shy of £2,000 per Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment student, which is much more than the highest facilities spend ratio reported in this year’s Complete University Guide. This building features a large flexible project space, featuring a makers’ area with advanced technology and rapid prototyping. It's also home to Birmingham Thinktank, an award-winning science museum.
City South Campus
The City South Campus in Edgbaston is home to our health, education, sports and social care courses. We recently opened a new £41 million extension which contains a range of specialist laboratories for our new courses in sport and life sciences and education. Our students learn in the most realistic settings – from a mock operating theatre and hospital wards to a fully equipped birthing room and virtual radiotherapy suite.
Our other buildings
Our internationally renowned School of Jewellery is the largest in Europe and its multi-award winning building houses an array of workshops in addition to its outstanding atrium gallery space. Its Digital Technology Hub houses industry-standard 3D printing and laser technologies, enabling the creation of complex jewellery and horological items.
The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire features 9,000 sq. m of purpose-designed teaching, rehearsal and state of the art performance space. The audio and video digital infrastructure is designed to enhance and support live performance and to allow students to experiment with new technologies. It is a unique contemporary building, incorporating five public performance spaces. It is also home to seven industry-standard recording studios.
The School of Art places you firmly in the heart of the city’s thriving cultural quarter, which includes the Library of Birmingham, and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Our Grade 1 listed building is a superb combination of Venetian Gothic architecture and modern workshops, learning and social areas, and public exhibition space. It also houses a specialist fine art library and workshops for wood, metal, plaster, fibreglass, ceramics, digital media, print and photography.
