Funding opportunity for small creative projects
The AHRC funded Diaspora Screen Media Network is offering awards of up to £300 for work on topics related to the network's interests in Black British and British Asian screen media.

New Screen Media/Social Media: The Digital Environment in a Post-Covid World - Workshop
This workshop, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), is set to take place on Tuesday 14 September.
The workshop aims to examine and discuss some of the exciting new viewing practices in relation to screen media and social networking apps in the field of Black British and British Asian diaspora screen media.

Listen in to BBC Radio Interviews about the AHRC DSMN Event - 5 February
An interview about the DSMN network and the forthcoming UN symposium on 5th February with SC members Janet Wilson and David Simmons and host Suki Somal will be aired across the BBC Radio Northampton network on Saturday 25th January on the Afternoon show with John Rose from 12-2pm and on Sunday 26th January 8-10pm in Mark Dean’s show for Northamptonshire’s African and Caribbean community. If you miss them when they go out all of these broadcasts can be listened to again on the BBC sounds page.

Bhaji on the Beach Screening

Yesterday saw the first of our planned network Cinema screenings, Gurinder Chadha’s Bhaji on the Beach (1993).Written by Meera Syal, the film follows a group of British Asian women and charts the journey of self-discovery they go on when they take a trip to Blackpool Illuminations.
The screening was preceded by an introductory talk on the network and its aims by Professor Janet Wilson.
