Font stating Finding Ivy - a life worthy of life

From 1940 to 1941 around 70,000 adults with mental and physical disabilities living in institutions across Germany and Austria were systematically killed under a Nazi state-led programme called Aktion T4. The victims were deemed to have “lives unworthy of life”.

An international team of researchers led by Dr Helen Atherton from the University of Leeds in the UK have meticulously and painstakingly reconstructed the lives of these people.

The Finding Ivy exhibition is a sobering and thought-provoking experience, acting as a stark reminder of the extreme harm human beings are capable of inflicting upon one another. It also challenges a widely accepted belief that Aktion T4 only affected the German and Austrian populations by making clear its international reach.

The exhibition will be in the Seacole Foyer from 10am – 5pm, Monday to Saturday from now until 16 October, and again from Monday 21 October through to Wednesday 30 October.
