Award-winning entrepreneur and BCU’s Alumna of the Year, Sophie Bennett, will be bringing her expertise and skills back to BCU this Spring for a series of workshops on how to start a business. 

Each workshop will guide and support budding entrepreneurs and those in the early stages of setting up their own business by providing them with the key information, skills and ideas to equip them well for the future.  

The three workshops will take place in Curzon Building (C388) on: 

Wednesday 26 March – 12.30pm - 3pm 
Workshop 1: Refining Your Business Idea and Conducting Market Research 
 
Wednesday 2 April – 12.30pm - 3pm  
Workshop 2: Creating a Solid Business Plan and Choosing the Right Legal Structure 
 
Wednesday 9 April – 12.30pm - 3pm 
Workshop 3: Funding Your Business, Developing a Brand and Launching Your Business 

The workshops are free to attend, but by registering, you must be available to attend every workshop.  
 
Catering will be provided for workshop attendees, and those who attend all three workshops will receive a certificate and are able to add it to their ‘Licenses & Certifications’ section on their LinkedIn profiles.

Sophie Bennett

Sophie is the award-winning entrepreneur and Founder and CEO of the UK’s second largest black business and community network, Black Owned Birmingham  

She completed a Foundation Year in Professional Administration in 2014, before going on to gain a BA (Hons) in Business Administration in 2016, followed by an MSc in Management and Entrepreneurship in 2017. 

Sophie is also on several advisory boards, including the UK Black Business Show, Forbes Black, and The Albion Foundation. She has also won several awards, including Certificate of Recognition from The British Citizen Award, and earlier this year, she was named BCU’s Alumna of the Year 2025.
