Pow! Comic book heroes on campus

It was comic strip heaven at Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Technology, Engineering and the Environment when Batman and Robin, Catwoman, the Green Arrow and other superheroes arrived to participate in a film shoot.

Award-winning commercials and animation director Shaun Magher and crew were shooting parts of a film entitled ‘PULP’, a comedy set in the world of comic book publishing.

The gang of superheroes attended the British International Comic Show held at Millennium Point on Saturday 16 October, home to Birmingham City University’s city centre campus.

Fans attending the show were also interviewed by the film-makers, using the University’s School of Digital Media Technology’s virtual ‘blue screen’ TV studio, for possible inclusion in the ‘PULP’ movie.

We were only too happy to oblige and proud to be showing off our facilities”, said Senior Lecturer Dave Taylor.

Birmingham City University is an accredited Skillset Academy equipped with industry-standard facilities. We therefore welcome any opportunities to collaborate with those working in screen and sound media.

We hope to work with Shaun again in the not too distant future and have invited him to be a guest speaker at one of our monthly Creative Networks events.”

Shooting for PULP continues on location at Millennium Point and elsewhere in the region during November.
