New accolade for gender inequalities researcher from BCU

Award-winning researcher Dr Ashjan Ajour has landed another prestigious accolade thanks to her innovative work on feminism and inequality issues in Europe.

The Sociology lecturer from Birmingham City University received an Emma Goldman Award and funding worth $50,000 (£42,000) from the FLAX Foundation.

“This recognition provides a wonderful chance to develop my research in this field further, and I look forward to making the most of the opportunity in the coming years,” said Dr Ajour, who received her award in the Austrian capital Vienna.

The FLAX Foundation generates research on feminist and inequality issues with the aim of boosting social justice, equality and solidarity in Europe.

It hands out Emma Goldman Awards to up to 10 researchers annually.

“It is truly an honour to receive this recognition, and I am excited to use this opportunity to advance my research in addressing gender inequalities,” added Dr Ajour.

“I am grateful to be part of such a supportive community.”

Dr Ajour received her award in the Austrian capital, Vienna.

In 2022, she won the Palestine Book Award for her published work ‘Reclaiming Humanity in Palestinian Hunger strikes: Political Subjectivity and Decolonizing the Body’.
