Pro Vice-Chancellor Executive Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment (CEBE), Professor Hanifa Shah, has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contribution to Higher Education, innovation, and inclusion.
The award was presented to Professor Shah during a Chutney and Chat event, which was held in Birmingham. Attended by more than 450 people from across the Midlands, the event brought together business leaders, educators, and community influencers, making it one of the region’s most significant networking gatherings of the year.
At the event, Professor Shah was recognised for her visionary leadership and transformative impact on the relationship between academia and industry. Her work was described as being instrumental in shaping the CEBE faculty into a hub of excellence for teaching, research, and industry engagement.
She was also acknowledged for her initiatives in work-based learning programmes and digital transformation, which have fostered a dynamic, inclusive environment that empowers students and staff.
"Professor Shah’s impact extends far beyond BCU - she has transformed how we think about education and its role in society," co-founder of Chutney and Chat, BCU alumnus and community ambassador Safaraz Ali, said. "As an alumnus, I am immensely proud to see BCU and its leaders championing innovation, diversity, and inclusion. Professor Shah exemplifies the best of leadership, and this recognition is richly deserved."
Professor Shah said she was grateful for the award: "This honour reflects the collective efforts of many talented individuals at BCU and beyond. It’s a privilege to receive this recognition and to continue advancing education and innovation."
Her career spans both academia and industry, including leadership roles at BT, Cadbury Schweppes, and Britvic. These experiences have shaped her ability to bridge academia with industry needs, fostering a culture of innovation and employability.
