Architecture
Collaborative and Interdisciplinary
Research within the College of Architecture has grown from the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, design for future living, interior architecture and design, and product and furniture design.
Our research draws on this inter and trans-trans-disciplinarity to contribute to international and national research agendas and policies in relation to the designed environment.
From the scale of the product or a piece of furniture, right through to the scale of the city and landscape, our work has a strong emphasis of collaboration between the school and the city’s communities.
Urban Cultures
The Urban Cultures Research Cluster undertakes internationally recognised research on the changing pattern of art, crafts, architecture, and the urban environment in the context of both regional and global culture.
West Midlands National Park Lab
The West Midlands National Park (WMNP) Lab is an international think-tank for integrated landscape-led visioning and development. Based at Birmingham City University, the Lab is the research and executive office for domestic and international projects and partnerships.
PhD Opportunities
We offer a range of PhD routes and welcome original research undertaken through a written format thesis and/or creative practice-led research. Our PhD opportunities will be of particular interest to architects, landscape architects, interior architecture and design practitioners and product designers who have developed their practice to a high level.
