Dr Licheng Qian
Assistant Lecturer in Sociology
Licheng Qian is currently an Assistant Lecturer in Sociology at Birmingham City University (BCU). Prior to joining BCU in 2023, he worked at the University of Macau (2021-2023) and Zhejiang University (2017-2021) as an Assistant Professor and taught at the University of Virginia as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant and Lecturer (2010-2017).
Licheng's academic interests lie in the intersection of culture, politics, and collective memory, including the study of national, transnational, and postcolonial identities. In terms of regional focus, he is interested in studying the Greater China area, the Chinese diaspora, and the transnational comparison between China and other societies.
Licheng’s research has been published in leading social science and China studies journals, such as Journal of Contemporary China, Cultural Sociology, Memory Studies, Nations and Nationalism, and Sociological Studies (Shehuixue Yanjiu).
