Wen SUN

Sun Wen’s research focuses on performance art in China from the perspective of artists’ self-mutilation behaviours. Her research aims to discover how the mutilated bodies in performance art are used as art expressions and became ingenious metaphors.

Her research will uncover a cultured body in contemporary China to discuss how the context in China has tinted these arts. The connection between the body, pain, subjectivity, and a broader socio-cultural context is the intriguing research question of this dissertation. The research takes an empathetic standing point in decoding these arts and trying to understand their universal existence and their extensive practices in contemporary China.
