STEAM Forward: Supporting Local Businesses with Production and Service Innovation Support

Birmingham City University is providing business support to local SMEs across priority growth clusters specified in the West Midlands Plan for Growth, with a particular emphasis on the creative industry, digital, transport technology and low-carbon sectors. This is part of an innovation programme to strengthen the regional economy and opportunities for levelling up.

Key Aims

  • Drive business growth through product diversification and new production development
  • Create an environment that supports SMEs to create new products and services to meet existing and future customer demand.  
  • Provide an enabling environment for co-creation, to enable inter-disciplinary working for example the provision of co-working spaces and facilities.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to help frame market opportunities.• Facilitate the development of prototypes as Minimal Viable Products (MVPs) through access to facilities to enable production. 
  • Connect businesses to the wider business support network and facilitate introductions to investors and investor vehicles.
