Dr Rachel Scudamore is a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Health Education and Life Sciences at Birmingham City University. She brings extensive experience of educational development and improving the broader student experience to support colleagues in their reflection on teaching practice and enquiry into effective student learning.

Rachel has worked in Russell Group and post-92 contexts, initially as a lecturer in animal behaviour and evolution, before moving into staff development, learning technology and academic staff induction programmes. She led the PGCert for new lecturers at the University of Nottingham and published a widely acclaimed online resource on Promoting Enhanced Student Learning before introducing the University’s first UK Professional Standards Framework recognition scheme. At Birmingham City University she led the Educational Development Service and Student Affairs departments including provision of mental health support for students.

As Visiting Professor, Rachel’s priorities interests lie in identifying how distributed leadership contributes to teaching improvement in HE, in exploring perceptions of quality and their relationship to effective learning, and in developing the evidence-base for effective practice in placement-based learning.
