Dr Waheb Abdullah is an Electrical Engineer with a PhD in Electrical, Electronic, and Systems Engineering combined with over 15 years of expertise in industry and academia. He received the BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Basrah, Iraq, in 2001, the Master of Engineering in Communication & Computer Engineering and the PhD in Electrical, Electronic, and Systems Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), in 2011 and 2015 respectively.

He is currently an Associate Professor of Electrical/Electronics Engineering at the School of Engineering and the Built Environment, Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment, Birmingham City University (BCU), United Kingdom. His research interests include Internet of Things, Wireless Networks, Mobile Communications, Smart Sensors and Control. He also has a keen interest in Low Power Wide Area Networks such as LoRa/LoRaWAN networks. Before joining BCU, Waheb served for six years in different academic, research and administrative positions at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Malaysia that include Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the Faculty of Engineering Technology (FTeK) (2016-2019) and the Faculty of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE) (2019-2022), Research Fellow at the Centre for Software Development & Integrated Computing, Coordinator of Senior Design Projects for undergraduate students at FTKEE, and Head of Advanced Electronics & Automation Research Sector at FTeK. He has served as a Principal and Co-researcher of many research projects in the field of Wireless Networks and Internet of Things and registered four intellectual property.

He has published many articles in prestigious and high-ranked journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus and also presented numerous papers at international conferences. Waheb has supervised and co-supervised three PhD candidates, five MSc by research students and over 40 undergraduate project dissertations. He has also been nominated as Internal Examiner for Master’s and PhD students.

He has received number of Excellence Awards in teaching and research development and many Gold/Silver/Bronze medals from several national and international exhibitions for innovative research and inventions. He was awarded a Top Peer Reviewer Award in 2019 as a part of the Global Review Awards by Publons, Web of Science. His academic research skills and hands-on practice in Electrical and Electronics Engineering are supported by six years (2002-2008) of industrial experience in power plants operation and maintenance as an Electrical Supervisor and Commissioning Engineer at Sana’a South Power Plant with the Public Electricity Corporation, Yemen prior to awarding scholarship and joining UKM for pursuing his postgraduate studies.
