Congenital Cardiac Nursing
Research
Improving cardiac nursing
Researchers at Birmingham City University are improving congenital cardiac nursing for children and families through a number of funded projects, supported by the UK's first professor of congenital cardiac nursing, Professor Kerry Gaskin.
Kerry’s unique professorial role focuses on developing congenital cardiac nursing, such as leveraging technology for the assessment and monitoring of fragile infants with complex congenital heart disease in the community.
Developing a Congenital Heart Assessment Tool Mobile Application
Babies with complex heart conditions have their initial heart surgery in the first week of life and second stage before one year old. This research project aims to create an application for parents to use when taking their baby home from their first heart surgery to monitor their condition.
Heart to Heart
Having both spent a lot of their lives with cardiac teams, Kerry and Joel are connected to cardiac care in Birmingham as a nurse and as a patient. Hear Kerry and Joel discuss the importance of research in cardiac nursing, and the impact it has on individuals and families living with congenital heart disease.
