Jane Denton is Director of the Multiple Births Foundation (MBF), a charity which was founded by Dr Elizabeth Bryan, a former President of ISTS. The MBF works with professionals to raise awareness and improve services to meet the specific and special needs of multiple birth families.  Jane Denton’s professional background is nursing and midwifery with a specialist interest in infertility. This led to her work with the MBF as the implications of multiple births arising from infertility treatments began to emerge in the late 1980s.

She became Director of the MBF in 1998 and has written and lectured extensively on all aspects of multiple births, including presenting at several ISTS Conferences.  Jane’s role includes leading the MBF education and training programme for professionals and collaborative research projects.  She has wide experience of the clinical, scientific and ethical challenges presented by the advances in reproductive technologies. She has contributed to substantial change in public and professional attitudes towards multiple births.

She was a member of the expert group on multiple births which produced the report “One Child at Time. Reducing multiple births after IVF” and chairs the editorial board for the One at a Time website.  The MBF is a strong and committed supporter of the multiple birth parent organisations and Jane is on the Advisory Board for Multiple Births Canada and received the International Category of Multiple Births Canada’s  ‘Making A Difference Awards’ in 2009.

A former member of the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority, and a founder member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Fertility Nurses Group, Jane sits on the editorial board of the journal Human Fertility. She was a member of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) group developing evidence based guidance on Multiple Pregnancies and chaired the Topic Expert Group for the NICE Multiple Pregnancy Quality Standard.. Jane was made a Fellow of the RCN in 2006 and an Honorary Fellow of the British Fertility Society in 2008. She was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2007 for services to nursing and healthcare.
