In Conversation with the Experts: The Future of the United Nations

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the BCU Centre for Human Rights we held a conference with leading human rights experts to discuss the current and future challenges for the global international legal order.

This was an inspiring event in which we engaged with the UN’s Pact for the Future (2024), we identified key points for concern, including the importance of the meaningful functioning of the international institutions, and the necessity for the empowerment of the youth and future generations. We discussed some of the current thematic challenges to the international legal order and what we all need to do to have effective participation to ensure we have a sustainable future for our plant and ourselves.

We were inspired and enthralled by the wonderful Keynote Speech delivered by Her Excellency Dr Fatou Bensouda, and the engaging and enlightening panels provided by Mr Gianni Magazzeni, Ms Barbara Fontana, Ms Nicoletta Zappile, Ms Francesca Restifo, and Mr Imri Shattner-Ornan.

At the end of the Conference we had the exciting occasion of launching the BCU United Nations Society (UNS). Our Alumnus, Counsellor Sainey Barrow of the Gambia High Commission to the United Kingdom provided a Statement, and the UNS President Stuart Crutchlow and Vice President Mira Obaro, announced the launch of the society.
