Lee Griffiths
Doctoral researcher
Lee studied jazz saxophone at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating with a BMus (Hons) in 2016. He has performed all around the UK and abroad including appearances at Shambala Festival, Boomtown Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Pizza Express Jazz Club, and Cafe Oto.
After finishing at RBC, Lee became involved with the jazz research cluster at the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research. He subsequently studied for an MA in Media and Cultural Studies and was then awarded an M4C studentship to begin his PhD in 2020.
His research draws heavily on new materialist philosophy, particularly the work of Karen Barad and Donna Haraway, and attempts to find new ways of writing about the field of jazz practices in all its complexity and relationality.
